Thai Investment Mission to the Philippines

A Thai investment mission composed of PTT Public Company Limited, PTT International Company Limited, Millimed Company Limited, TEAM Consulting Engineering and Management Company Limited, and the Pacific Asia Travel Association visited the Philippines from 26 to 28 July 2011.  The mission was led by officials from the Thai Board of Investment (BOI).

The itinerary of the group consisted of meetings with relevant Philippine government agencies such as the Department of Energy and Board of Investments; meetings with major Philippine companies, including  San Miguel Corporation, Ayala Corporation, and Sutherland Global Services Philippines; factory and industrial estate visits (Light Industry & Science Park 1 and Farmtec Foods); and business matching/networking sessions.

On day two of the investment mission, the group received a briefing on investment opportunities in the Philippines.  The Thai BOI representative responded with a briefing on investment opportunities in the Thailand. The Thai delegation later participated in three (3) business matching sessions, namely, (1) Business matching between the visiting Thai companies and Philippine companies; (2) Business matching between Philippines companies and BOT Thailand officers; and (3) Roundtable discussion between Public-Private Partnership Center and Thai infrastructure companies.

According to a member of the Thai delegation, the investment mission enabled the participating Thai companies to “establish networks with Philippine companies, which may have been difficult to do by themselves.” The Thai companies were able to network and link with potential Filipino partners for various projects ranging from infrastructure development, oil and gas exploration, and distribution and joint tourism promotion.

The investment mission was co-organized by the Philippine Trade and Investment Center in Bangkok and the Thai BOI. The Philippine Board of Investments arranged the investment briefing, the business matching sessions, and visits to the Industrial Parks and commercial zones.
