Ambassador Linglingay F. Lacanlale paid a courtesy call on the Speaker of the House of Representatives and President of the National Assembly of Thailand, Mr. Somkiat Kiatsuranont.

Ambassador Lacanlale conveyed the Philippines’ solidarity with the sufferings of the Thai people in this flood crisis.  She acknowledged receipt of the Speaker’s letter of appeal for assistance and informed that the Embassy has circulated the request to some Philippine companies operating in Thailand as well as to the Filipino community organizations for their direct contributions to the official National Assembly accounts indicated in the letter.

Other matters discussed during the call are the continuing parliamentary exchange visits between the two countries given the active interest of the Thai-Philippines Parliamentarians’ Friendship Group in Thailand and the anticipated establishment of its counterpart in the Philippine House of Representatives.

The Speaker emphasized the need to develop a strong ASEAN Community, particularly a strong ASEAN Economic Community, so that together with the other big economies in the region, we could claim to be the new “tiger” economies.
