On 3 September 2011, the Philippine Embassy in Bangkok conducted a consular outreach for the Filipino community in Chiang Mai province and nearby areas. The outreach, conducted in the Holiday Inn Chiang Mai, was organized by the Embassy in cooperation with the Association of Filipinos in Thailand – Northern Region Chapter headed by Ms. Roxanne Oddie.
On 2 September 2011, the Ambassador also met with Pol. Lt. Gen. Chaiya Siriamphunkul, Commissioner, Provincial Police Region 5. Gen. Chaiya noted that the province have had no problem involving Filipinos. He promised to take care of the Filipino community in the province and assured Ambassador Linglingay F. Lacanlale of his cooperation with the Philippine Embassy.
The Ambassador expressed appreciation for the warm welcome extended to her by the Provincial Police and the assistance that the latter extends to the Filipino community. She informed Gen. Chaiyu of the Embassy’s plan to appoint an honorary consul in the province to assist the community with their consular needs.
Ambassador Lacanlale also congratulated Gen. Chaiyu and the entire provincial police force for its work in keeping peace and order in the district.
On 4 September, the Embassy delegation headed to Chiang Rai for a similar consular outreach. The outreach, which was co-organized with the assistance of Mr. Albert de la Paz, was held at the Population and Community Development Association (PDA) Building in Chiang Rai.
Apart from the e-passport service, the Embassy consular team offered ID and legalization of documents in both consular outreach missions. Ambassador Lacanlale also met with the Filipinos in Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai to update them on developments in the Philippines and discuss the concerns of the Filipino community.
