A mobile team from the Philippine Embassy in Bangkok, headed by First Secretary and Consul General Edgar Badajos, rendered consular services to the Filipino community in Thailand’s southern city of Hat Yai and neighboring provinces on 15 July. The other members of the mobile team were Consul Randy Arquiza, Mr. Roberto Verzosa, Ms. Bernadette Dimaano and Ms. Pilar Binuya. The mobile consular team offered passport as well as legalization services. The majority of the applications were for e-passport. Like the previous consular outreaches to Southern Thailand, the July 15 outreach to Hat Yai was organized by the Embassy in cooperation with the Organization of Filipino Expatriates in the South of Thailand (OFEST). The outreach coincided with the 2nd anniversary of OFEST and induction of the organization’s new set of officers led by Ms. Phylis Clomata as the president.
The city of Hat Yai is the business center of the province of Songkhla, which is located in Thailand’s so-called “deep south” together with the provinces of Yala, Pattani, and Narathiwat. It is near the Malaysian border and home to a growing Filipino community the majority of whom work as educators. -END-
